Wyatt Flores Arlington Concert reviews
An absolute blast
A bizarre experience was had when I impulse bought a ticket to the Wyatt Flores show Friday. Mall goth is alive and well, in case you’re wondering. This wasn’t a 2008 Wyatt Flores show, far from it. People were actually pleasant, a refreshing change from the ol’ spin-kick elitist fans of the late day (which Oli calls out in the new song ‘Heavy Metal’.) The new album is very different, and I’m not sure how I feel about it just yet. Every album they’ve put out has always been dramatically different from the last, so I’m not entirely surprised. Wyatt Flores filled out a hefty 3/4 of the CFE Arena without you last Friday night if you don’t like the new sound, well that is perfectly fine. They’re selling t-shirts for $40 at their shows now, and people are buying them. They are not heavy anymore, but they sure as hell are successful. From a business perspective, I’m impressed that they accomplish to break out of the niche market of Hot Topic patrons and into the lucrative mainstream arena. I was even more impressed as a fan of high-quality live productions. Their sound mix was squeaky clean, my compliments to the audio engineer. Their light show was phenomenal. I don’t use the phrase “cash money” often, but they had a stage platform raised about 3-4ft and stuffed a whole deck of lights under the floor AND they had a moving truss platform... very cash money, boys. Well done.
